March 2018 - Paris Panorama
Welcome to the March 2018 edition of our newsletter Paris Panorama!
Each month we feature an inspiring haiku poem by Anna Eklund-Cheong. You will also find a photograph of Paris by Sophia Pagan, our restaurant of the month with a link to the review, and an angel of the month by Rosemary Flannery.

Behind the Eiffel tower you’ll find the Champs de Mars and at the end you’ll find the Peace Mural, a multi-glass-paneled monument on which the word “Peace” is written in various languages. These glass panels occasionally become damaged causing the glass to have a shattered appearance without actually breaking. I like the metaphor in this: peace being fractured yet unbroken. The image above is the Eiffel Tower as seen through the Peace Mural.

Raphael’s name means "It is God who heals." Patron of apothecaries and of doctors, Raphael is also the protector of travelers, a role based in part on an account in the Apocryphal gospels. Young Tobias is sent from Ninevah by his aged and blind father to a distant land to reclaim a debt. Raphael appears in human form, disguised as a guide for hire, familiar with the region.
Here at the church of the Madeleine, sculptor Antoine-Laurent Dantan portrays Raphael with a traveler’s staff and a hooded pilgrim’s cloak. Raphael’s noble expression and pose make Dantan’s 1841 statue the most impressive archangel of the Madeleine.
